///  THE INEFFICIENCIES OF MAILING PAPER CHECKS

Paper checks: a headache for jurors, a migraine for the jury office

Costly to issue
Each paper check costs an estimated $7 to $20 to issue, plus Positive Pay fees to guard against fraud.
Check fraud exposure
Check fraud is disruptive and costly.
Lost and damaged checks
Every problem check means research, a stop payment and a reissue. Then the follow-up call.
Slow, then hard to close out
Jurors wait 3 to 6 weeks to be paid, and uncashed checks drag out reconciliation and escheatment.

///  THE GOVFUNDS SOLUTION

From check-in to compensation, without a check

1
Issue at check-in
Each juror receives a GovFunds disbursement card at check-in, with no value yet, and is told to hold on to it.
2
Juror serves
Attendance is recorded as it is today. Nothing changes in the courtroom.
3
Court pays jurors
When service ends, the court uploads its payment file to GovFunds. Jurors are paid immediately.
4
Juror claims their money
The juror logs in, sees the balance and picks how to get paid: card, bank transfer, PayPal, Venmo, Amazon, gift cards or a paper check.
It’s their money. Jurors decide how to claim it, so no one is left holding a check they can’t easily cash.
THE SOLUTION
A disbursement card at check-in
Handed out at check-in with nothing on it yet. When the court pays, the money shows up and the juror picks how to claim it.
